In this day and age, most of us at one time or another have used a digital camera, whether it be for family photos, scenic landscapes or in some cases for paranormal investigative research. Taking pictures has it’s perks, as you are able to views later what you had seen in an instance, all at the click of a button. Sure this all rather common news for most, but for those that are unfamiliar with the use of a camera, there are some general things to understand. The basics, in the investigative scene, there’s analyzing the photos themselves. Trying to decipher what is from what you see. Many of us who have spent numerous hours on end scanning one photo from the next only to come up with nothing profound enough to be labeled as paranormal realize that the work spent analyzing is of dire importance and not to be taken lightly. Yes, from time to time, we will come across photos that have been posted via social media claiming to be just that , paranormal. Not to say that the chances of coming up with something highly questionable to where debunking methods have been exhausted are not there, but we as investigators do the very thing that is required from us in order to find out the correct answers for those who seek it. Jumping to conclusions by laying claim to something that is not, not only discredits those who make the claim, but does the client a disservice by leading them into a belief that is not valid.
Dust, which is one identifying particle, has been most commonly identified as an orb. In all actuality it is. So can moisture, insects ,rain , snow, pollen and so many other things. The word Orb can be defined as a transparent or translucent ball of light that can be seen moving from one point to another. The reason being, wind which carries such particles in a certain direction, and when someone takes a picture, whether it be daylight or night, the camera has tendencies of altering one’s perception as to what that may be. Enhancing the photo can also alter one’s point of identifying what it is because if you enhance it too much, you can distort what is, causing it to make you think you see something else. Apophenia is one thing that comes to mind in this instance, creating something visual that really isn’t there, Investigators also call it Matrixing.
We are not saying everything you come across is dust or bugs, but the odds are more in your favor if you take the time to debunk before you share it. Did you know there are even illnesses that can cause one to see things, and I’m not just talking orbs. Those who have glaucoma have been know to had symptoms of seeing blurred balls floating, which is part of the illness that directs eye vision to the brain. Debunking is the best form of protocol when it comes to finding out what it is you have collected from your camera. familiarize yourself with your camera and it’s capabilities. It will be one of the main tools in your arsenal of paranormal investigations.
